Splash

Ive been fascinated with swimming since I was about 8 years old. I was at apartment complex pool without a lifeguard. I was playing in the deep end going up and down on the ladder to touch the bottom. (No I didnt know how to swim) This is where I found my Love for the water. I just like holding my breathing and watching everyone swim underwater wishing I could do it. As I came back up for air a kid jump in near the ladder, we collided and I lost my grip on the ladder and drifted away. Next I remember  it was water then sky then water then sky. Someone jumped in and saved me. I looked at that water and wondered how something so beautiful and peaceful can suddenly turn violent and life threatening. I said never again I will learn how to swim. So I went to neighborhood pool and studied people swimming in all ways. I started from one corner to a side, a little further each time. Soon I was swimming from side to side without feet touching the bottom. Then I was jumping, flipping, diving, swimming in the deep in.

While a Freshman in high school the swim coach saw me swim during class and was like your pretty fast without technique. Do you want to be on swim team and I will teach you to swim correctly.  He taught me all the strokes but only trained on freestyle and breaststroke. I won a lot of races and went to state finals but I got beat. Them dudes been swimming their whole lives, So what happened. Well I didn’t have any dreams of being a professional swimmer. Coach said he was going to teach me how to swim correctly and that’s all I wanted. So I didn’t return next year.

Worked two summers at Altgeld Park as a Lifeguard for Chicago Park District.

Joined the U.S  Navy for 21 years. Every six months for my physical evaluation I would choose the option to swim. Averaging 9:00 for 500 yds freestyle. I swam on a regular when for leisure and exercise. Always offering my help to anyone that mentions wanting to learn how to swim,

After retirement I worked for Big Blue and Foss Swim Schools for a very short time and realized I wanted to create my own style. Teaching via unorthodox methods using imagination and fun to allow swimmer to develop their own path through the water.  Not everyone wants to swim to compete some just want to relax at the Waters Edge and feel safe knowing they will not drown. It’s a life saving ability/skill we all should KNOW. So my journey as a swim instructor begins………
